Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus) Project cultivation

Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus) Project cultivation

Here’s another project interest me and my wife started just 2 weeks ago.

According to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oyster_mushrooms , “Pleurotus ostreatus, the oyster mushroom, is a common edible mushroom. It was first cultivated in Germany as a subsistence measure during World War I and is now grown commercially around the world for food. However, the first documented cultivation was by Kaufert. There is some question about the name Pleurotus corticatus, but no question he cultivated an oyster mushroom. It is related to the similarly cultivated “king oyster mushroom”. Oyster mushrooms can also be used industrially for mycoremediation purposes. The oyster mushroom may be considered a medicinal mushroom, since it contains statins such as lovastatin which work to reduce cholesterol. The oyster mushroom is one of the more commonly sought wild mushrooms, though it can also be cultivated on straw and other media.”

We actually tried another media, via rounded plastic, the wood (saw dust) and plastic are conducive to mushroom growth as they are good vapor barrier and insulation to maintain temperature humidity also low CO2 and light are needed for mushrooms to grow.

The good thing about this project is that this can be an edible alternative to meat:), easily grown in the corner of your home, inexpensive way to grow & harvest food and very low maintenance. This is actually sold in near my area at 300Php/kilo :). Benefits are as follows: (This is complimentary to the article published in Livestrong)

Yamaha Force 1 or Crypton’s Evolution

Yamaha Force 1 or Crypton's Evolution

Hi guys, its been awhile since my last post, as I’ve been pursuing some missed interest and hobbies such as in the field of modification. Let me share one of them.

Its aptly to say that the involvement goes deep, perhaps rich with history, as my first moped was bought last 1995 through my small earnings in Globe Telecom as a sales assistant. Why a motorcycle and not a car? Travel time and weekend out of town trips! It was simply a practical way for me to meet work run arounds (all over the Manila) during the weekdays and leisurely drive on weekends with friends. It was life of a start up bachelor set in motion. No easy-fancy hand-me-down but hard self earned machine, a Yamaha Force1 110cc with semi automatic transmission. It was first of its kind, a hybrid motorcyle/scooter, though automatic it still had forceful acceleration as they fittingly called it Force 1. As the months progressed, Crypton came out with better flarings but with the same engine. Eventually our romance ended abruptly as I was now required to drive a four wheel by the company. I ended up selling it to a friend and saw it deteriorate due to bad maintenance and freak accident that soon happened.

So here I come after 17 years reminiscing of that unforgettable bike now forlorn but ready for a chance to make up, reinvent, to ride again 🙂

Then came a rusted, barely running Yamaha Crypton and some backyard mod contacts who loved to tinker while having a good sense of expense or strong financial acumen. Usually the price of Crypton today ranges from 18-20K if these are good ones. However the condition of this project is barely over the price of junked metal sold in kilos. So I looked up my friends, agreed on restoration and modification expense and gave it time. The process is that engine block will be used, an additional 15K “estimate” to buy new chassis, front and rear suspension, wheels, disc brakes and flarings. How will it end up? The evolution of Crypton 110cc to TTR-110, the Yamaha’s powerful Pit Bike. This usually sells between 40-50K, which is a fun and hopefully new toy for circuit enthusiasts.

This is how it looks to date and the evolution its taking:) Will post the final machine once done. Wish me luck and hopefully I get to sell it higher as the objective is to sell it as a pit bike.

Here’s a vid to better see its use and fun it brings! http://youtu.be/5rgxKCNIsjw

Email to oust Willie Revillame & Joey De Leon’s Tagalog Poem for Cory

Just sharing with you a forwarded email to oust Willie Revillame of wowowee and a copy  Joey De Leon’s poem printed in Philippine Star.

Subject: Move to Oust Willie Revillame

Please forward to everyone in your loop especially to TFC subscribers.

To: ABS CBN Management, MTRCB and PANA

To Whom It May Concern:

I am an avid viewer of ABS CBN and I am very well up-to-date regarding their shows.
Without any doubt, I am a Kapamilya. However, last August 03, 2009, an incident
happened when Wowowee Host Willie Revillame blurted out comments when a video of
Pres. Cory’s cortege appeared on the screen.

While a contestant was dancing for the talent portion, a snippet of Pres. Cory
Aquino’s cortege was shown on the screen. But Willie did not cut short the dancing
portion. Instead, he let the contestant finish her routine. After that, he blurted
out comments regarding the video of Pre. Cory’s cortege. He said:

“Kung ganyan, pakita na lang natin ‘yan. Kasi nagsasaya kami dito, tapos… Masakit
sa akin ‘yan, e. Nagsasalita ako dito… ‘yan, please.
Okey?
Hindi ba?”

“Pangit! Hindi ho maganda sa atin. Nagsasalita, ipinapakita yung kabaong ni Tita
Cory, hindi ba? Papano kami makapagsasaya, nahihirapan kami? I’m sorry ho, ha. Pero
ako, totoo ako, e. ‘Wag n’yo akong pagagalitan, kasi totoo ang gusto kong malaman…

“Pagkatapos ng show, ipakita n’yo ang gusto n’yong palabas. Kasi itong Wowowee,

Some may argue that Willie’s intention was good, but I rather find these statements
rude and arrogant. Wowowee and Revillame is known by millions of Filipino viewers
and the show is even watched across several countries through TFC. To react in such
way is downright arrogant and disrespectful to the former President Corzaon Aquino.
I know that it was a bad taste for ABS-CBN to show a snippet of the funeral on
Wowowee, but it was worst for Revillame to react that way.

Willie have chosen to let the contestant dance instead of cutting short her act and
give way to the coverage of the cortege. Willie have chosen to blurt out his rude
comments ON-AIR instead of Off-cam. In short, Willie have chosen to have fun instead
of giving way to the funeral of Pres. Corazon Aquino. So they’d rather have fun
instead of pay our respects to our democracy icon? That was not a good example to
our youth today.

Was it really hard for him to be humble and human? I believe that this is not the
first time that he aired his views and rather arrogant comments On-air. He
embarasses his staff, makes fun of the contestants, and arrogantly act on TV almost
everyday. Pres. Aquino taught us humility, and Revillame is showing us the exact
opposite: arrogance.

This time, Willie’s statement should be condemed not only by the public, but by the
management of ABS-CBN as well. It also creates a public outrage in the internet
forums, chatting boards, and online-newspapers. Majority have negative reactions and
have condemned Willie Revillame’s brutal statements.

With this, I am calling the attention of the management of ABS-CBN to stop the
€œarrogant act€ of Willie Revillame on National TV program and
reprimand him because of his actions. Willie Revillame had been very disrespectful
to the Pres. Cory Aquino’s cortege, Filipinos icon of democracy. It was also worst
for your company that your own employee criticize you on national television instead
on off the air conversations.

I am calling the attention of the MTRCB to be more vigilant, so that this lowest
form of personal attack by a tv showbiz talk show host, for her/his personal agenda,
will not happen again

I am calling the PANA to stop supporting Wowowee until they axe or reprimand Willie
Revillame due to his actions. With him as one of the hosts, your product does not
project a positive image to the public.

The public and TFC subscribers deserve better programming, and we deserve better
than the likes of Willie Revillame.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned(http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?badwilly)

Joey De Leon’s Tagalog Poem.

Dahil kanilang himpilan naibalik mo.

* * *

Subalit ano itong nabalitaan ko?

Nangyari noong Lunes, a-tres ng Agosto,

Habang inililipat ang mga labi mo,

Ika'y parang nabastos sa isang TV show.

At 'di maaalis sa iyong pag-iisip,

Ang parada ng patay ang pinaliligpit!

At dagdag pa daw ng naghahari-harian,

"I don't think na dapat n'yong ipakita iyan."

Nasaan naman ang paggalang, o nasaan?

Mga sinasabi natin minsa'y pag-ingatan.

At 'di pa nangimi nang sumunod na araw,

Pinilit pa ring ginawa n'ya ay tama raw,

Mga nakarinig 'di na nakagalaw

At ayon sa iba sila na la'y napa-wow!

". Pero ako, totoo 'ko eh . ", sabi kuno,

Totoo nga at totoo ring walang modo,

Pwede namang sabihin itong pa-sikreto,

The breaking news breaks your heart - at 'yan ang bawi mo,

Mayaman man o mayabang ang tiyak diyan,

Sina Malab, Laguindan, Rodriguez, Cadiente,

Walong oras tumayo sa ulan at viaje,

Kahit isa wala kaming nilapastangan.

Bike up and ready to go!

It’s 4:15 am, I had the urge to organize my thoughts and schedule by putting them in my blog — this sure is becoming a habit.

I got some stuff for my multi-sport, a mity8 cyclometer and Louis Garneau trispeed shoes. Since I’m relatively new to some stuff and by taking on tips from my friends and doing the runabouts in several stores, I bought the most affordable and functional for me. Just wait till my wife sees the bill!  After a quick installation and few tweaks I’m giddy to test it on Sunday ’cause today is a 25 minute run and 35 swim day for me. I intend to do my run this am and finish of the swim late pm. Let’s see how I can fit this is in a crammed schedule, will tweet how I fair. By the way, I’m using http://isip.ph , it’s the best and cheapest way to update your twitter account via mobile, try it it’s free!

See you on the road!

Touching homily message delivered by Father Catalino Arevalo, SJ — A true leader is pure in heart and devoid of ambition — most of our leaders now are pale in comparison to Cory, the reason why when she called our help 23 years ago we responded.

Survival swimming in the office.

Today is my rest day from training, no bike, run or swim, just a regular day in the office pondering on what adrenalin pumping substitutes I could concoct. Quite timely since I’d be moving to another office soon, planning, organizing and preparing necessary items for a smooth transition.

A toxic day definitely needs a quick blog reprieve, just like catching my breath before plunging in a 50 meter pool. Its a good thing I nearly perfected my water breathing exercises through rhythmical dips. Without it and while doing a non stop 20 minute lap swim, I would have drank half the pools water and drown, good thing there’s also another option — stop and thread swim. Just like in the office, if you’re swimming through a series of deadlines and presentations, take this tip, embrace the fact that you need to go under water. So don’t panic when you take the plunge, work with the pressure, breathing comes next after a dip, just keep it constant and you’ll be surprised you’re at the end of the pool.

Imobile TV536, Hitz222 and TV620 now here in the Phils.

My annual pilgrimage to hell..Only in Phil Gov’t agencies!

It’s cliche when I say “change is constant”, true enough its the only expression that is overused that its meaning bends within Philippine administrative setting. I haven’t actually experienced true “Hell” in essence but I’m sure the people working there enjoyed their working environment.

My recent transactions within RD, BIR and Pag-Ibig only proved two points, 1. Change is constant — you deal with new management and policies aimed to serve you better, but 2.  you still deal with new management under the table. I’m wondering now if I contribute to that problem, that adhering to the policies and abiding by management stringent paper work within a short time frame complicate things. Bad practice never change only the amount you deal under the table.

This is the part I whimper. I actually dislike comparisons but within this context I should.  I was lucky enough to be accompanied by a Filjin (Filipina-Japanese national) to absorb that frustration I felt and quickly enough she responded  with angst and candid exasperation (talk about extremes). In Japan, this how they do it.. Line up for a vacancy amongst a row of processor, submit complete requirements, pay and voila you’re off to enjoy a cup of tea!

Not in the Philippines… Get a number, sit on a musical chair lined up to a waiting officer of the day. Once my turn and upon  submission of  documents plus the involved amount, the OIC of CG computations mumbled…”hati tayo” (let’s share). What he meant was, he can accept and process payment for me to save but he gets a half of the declared lower CG computation. WOW! AMAZING! SIMPLE and STRAIGHT to the POINT! That’s one example of a dedicated government employee! In return, I have to wait for 5 working days for my CAR to be released…wait isn’t that the standard processing time?  Oh no, it’s just press release he said — 2 weeks for a release of CAR (BIR Clearance as a prerequisite in RD). I’m sure you’re curious how much this guy would get by under declaring my property…17K for less than a 30 minute babble. So did I go for it? Call me whatever you like ’cause I did. Imagining myself going back and forth into that building and waiting for a minimum of 2 weeks with all uncertainties ahead was unacceptable. I had to grab that offer. I couldn’t risk missing the deadline Pag-Ibig gave for me to comply to get my money.

So I placed my life savings to that guys’ babbling, I just hope he comes thru if not I’m through. Would you do the same thing?

Hello world!

Hi everyone! This is the first of my blogs — I guess there isn’t much to do but to send out a couple of pleasantries to all my would be readers. What to expect? Not much but just a lot of updates from my regular encounters both on business and personal time.

To get this rolling, I was wondering if most of you have heard of a dual sim mobile phone? I’m sure when they say “dual sim” you think it’s China. Well I wont blame you, most of the dual sim phone currently out in the Philippine market are manufactured in China, some of it good and bad when it comes to quality and user interface. Having a background in Telco during the rise of analog and GSM technologies only made me a bit of a critic when it comes to mobile phones — but promise, I’ll hold back.

One of the dual sim mobile phones I’ve seen and will soon hit the Philippine Market is Imobile TV56 536 — a mobile phone built to entertain you via it’s TV air reception, dual sim capability and triband plus a pretty neat camera to capture your precious moments.  There’s also imobile hitz222 to choose from. These may be the newest addition to the dual sim phones soon, good luck to to imobile peeps!

Will post some pictures and some detailed critiquing re imobile TV56 536 and Hitz222. In the meantime check out the website http://www.i-mobilephone.com/form/tha/F_MobilePhone.aspx

All the best!

Saw this in Ronnie’s desktop, pretty bold straightforward wisdom. 🙂

5 pearls of Scottish wisdom to remember. . .

1. Money cannot buy happiness but somehow, it’s more comfortable to cry in a Mercedes Benz than on a bicycle.Ronnie V, my DB guy knows how to do bike stunts than drive, maybe its more convenient.

2. Forgive your enemy but remember the bastard’s name. Oh yes, his been under some deep scrutiny but always thrives to be on top on any dispute, call him small but terrible, harhar!

3. Help a man when he is in trouble and he will remember you when he is in trouble again. – I say let him face his trouble and get out of the way 🙂

4. Many people are alive only because it’s illegal to shoot them.Oh definitely legislation worthy, road hogs are top on my list!.

5. Alcohol does not solve any problem, but then neither does milk.any abuse would put you in trouble.
